Both male and female patients are good candidates for eyelid rejuvenation surgery.
There are several reasons you could decide to have eyelid rejuvenation surgery to improve your appearance. First, you could think you have extra skin or “eye bags” (fatty bulges). You might have developed these issues as you’ve aged, or you might be a younger patient due to your lifestyle or genetics. You might think that you always look worn out or furious. Certain people need eyelid surgery because they have substantial extra skin in their upper eyelids that is impairing their vision.
You are considered suitable for eyelid rejuvenation surgery if you are over 18, generally healthy, thin, and a nonsmoker. However, sometimes patients who seek eyelid rejuvenation surgery may not be candidates and may need an alternate course of treatment, including non-surgical rejuvenation techniques.
What other procedures may I be suitable for if not Upper Blepharoplasty surgery?
If your concerns are less to do with the eyelids and more with the skin around the eyes, then TIXEL skin resurfacing may be more appropriate if you only need a slight amount of tightening; anti-wrinkle injections may be a possibility if fine lines and wrinkles are your main worry; and dermal fillers may be the ideal option if you have a tear trough issue. You will be told during your consultation whether eyelid rejuvenation surgery is appropriate for you.
What will be discussed in the consultation?
The following will be methodically evaluated throughout the examination, and standard clinical pictures will be obtained for your medical file:
– the amount of excessive skin
– fat bulges
– skin quality
– brow ptosis (drooping brows, including ‘compensated brow ptosis’, which causes you to raise your brows subconsciously)
